AI Editing lets you transform selected text using predefined or custom commands. The editor shows a diff of the proposed changes so you can review exactly what will change before accepting.

How to Use

  1. Select the text you want to edit
  2. A command menu appears above the selection
  3. Choose a predefined command or type a custom instruction
  4. Review the diff. Green highlights show added text, red highlights show removed text.
  5. Accept or discard the changes

A brief summary above the diff explains what the AI changed and why.

Custom Instructions

Below the predefined commands, a text field accepts any free-form instruction. Type what you want (“make this more concise,” “rewrite for a general audience,” “add transition sentences”) and the AI applies it to the selected text.

Custom instructions have no format restrictions. The AI interprets your intent and generates a diff accordingly.

Reviewing and Applying Edits

Reviewing Changes

The diff view uses color coding:

A short summary appears above the diff explaining the nature of the changes. Read it for a quick sense of what shifted before examining the full diff.

You can retry multiple times to get variations. Each retry produces a fresh result.

How do I use AI editing in Jenni?
Select the text you want to edit, choose a predefined command from the menu that appears (like Simplify, Paraphrase, or Make longer), or type a custom instruction. Review the diff and accept or discard the changes.
Can I write my own custom editing instructions?
Yes. Below the predefined commands there is a text field where you can type any free-form instruction, such as “make this more concise” or “rewrite for a general audience.” The AI will apply it to your selected text.
What is the difference between AI editing and Reviews in Jenni?
AI Editing works on selected text and lets you transform specific passages with commands like paraphrase or simplify. Reviews scan your entire document for grammar, style, and claim confidence issues.
Can Jenni change the tone of my writing?
Yes. AI Editing includes several paraphrase modes: Academic, Casual, Persuasive, Bold, and Friendly. You can also use the Increase formality or Simplify commands to shift tone.
How do I undo an AI edit in Jenni?
Before accepting, click Discard to cancel the edit and restore your original text. You can also click Retry to generate a different version. After accepting, use Ctrl/Cmd + Z to undo.
Can Jenni translate my text to another language?
Yes. AI Editing includes translation commands for English, Spanish, German, French, Chinese, and Japanese. Select your text and choose the target language from the Transform section.
Can Jenni convert my text between lists, tables, and paragraphs?
Yes. Use the Transform commands to convert prose to bullet lists, numbered lists, or tables, and vice versa. Select the text and pick the target format from the command menu.
